Aleksandar Rodic - The Origin of Mass
This experimental video was created as a final project for my procedural animation class at Savannah College of Art and Design. scad.edu It was inspired by demoscene and sub-atomic particle collision images. The name comes from the Higgs Boson prticle which is expected to provide a scientific foundation for the origin of mass in the universe.
My special thanks goes to professor Ronald Bernard and Puryx aka Christian Rønde who let me use his music for the soundtrack originally created for a demo called Nucleophile bit.ly/aErBrg
You should visit prof. Bernard's website if you want to see some amazing student work:

Vladimir Todorovic - The Snail on the Slope (2009)
The Snail on the Slope is a generative movie based on a book of the same title by Strugatsky brothers. The novel is set on an unknown planet, where humans have a base from which they are investigating and trying to conquer the Forest. The Forest, which is a huge single organism is constantly changing and fighting back. It is also dangerous and there are a lot of unexplained phenomena that they are discovering.
The movie is made of five chapters, which critically address the questions of artistic and scientific efforts to understand nature. The topics that arise in those chapters are: sublime view on nature, role of knowledge, ubiquitous bureaucracy, and destruction of nature.
In the movie, all the scenes are generated with Processing. They are created as abstractions and visualizations of the atmospheres in which all of the action takes place.

200 Nanowebbers
200 Nanowebbers from Semiconductor on Vimeo.
For ‘200 Nanowebbers', Semiconductor have created a molecular web that is generated by Double Adaptor's live soundtrack. Using custom-made scripting, the melodies and rhythms spawn a nano scale environment that shifts and contorts to the audio resonance. Layers of energetic hand drawn animations, play over the simplest of vector shapes that form atomic scale associations. As the landscape flickers into existence by the light of trapped electron particles, substructures begin to take shape and resemble crystalline substances.

Envis Precisely: Quasar
Quasar from envis precisely on Vimeo.
Audiovisual artwork created for the fourth issue of WEAVE magazine (weave.de).It is an audiovisual composition that is based on a single set of MIDI notes. Those notes influence both music and graphics at the same time. We did not take the usual route of creating a piece of music first and then find some visualization for it; instead both elements have been developed at the same time. When we decided to change something with the graphics, the changes immediately influenced the music as well.

mrk - aDiatomea: ColonyIV
aDiatomea: ColonyIV from MRK on Vimeo.
aDiatomea is an artificial life system that uses various methods and notions of a-life research. The basic principle of aDiatomea is that every aspect of it is entirely mathematically generated and thus it is not created purposefully as an art piece but as a complex system that takes a life of its own. These artificial organisms are based on actual unicellular organisms known as Diatoms. These beautiful microscopic creatures are constructed using the superformula, an equation that can reproduce organic forms. Granular sound is injected in these organisms, acting as their life-force, while they interact with each other and their environment. This film shows a recording of 36 seconds of evolution, pushing the boundaries of complex computer calculations.more information at http://www.mrkfolio.co.uk/diatomea/index.html

Rich Bevan - Syn Emergence
Syn Emergence from RICH BEVAN on Vimeo.
Syn Emergence is a project which examines my own associative relationships between sound, form and space. The project is constructed according to a range of specific sonic and spatial scale rule sets (micro, component, meso and macro) which I designed as part of a cross-disciplinary notation/cartographic system.

The film was conceived as part of my Masters at the Bartlett School of Architecture (Unit 15).

Zeitguised: Peripetics
Peripetics from zeitguised on Vimeo.
Zeitguised made a piece in six acts for the opening exhibition at the Zirkel Gallery. It entails six imaginations of disoriented systems that take a catastrophic turn, including the evolution of educational plant-body-machine models and liquid building materials.Sunday, October 11, 2009
Ruth Jarman & Joe Gerhardt - Magnetic Movie (2007)
Magnetic Movie from Semiconductor on Vimeo.
The secret lives of invisible magnetic fields are revealed as chaotic ever-changing geometries . All action takes place around NASA's Space Sciences Laboratories, UC Berkeley, to recordings of space scientists describing their discoveries . Actual VLF audio recordings control the evolution of the fields as they delve into our inaudible surroundings, revealing recurrent ‘whistlers' produced by fleeting electrons . Are we observing a series of scientific experiments, the universe in flux, or a documentary of a fictional world?More info here semiconductorfilms.com/root/Magnetic_Movie/Magnetic.htm

Robert Seidel - _grau (2004)
_grau | 10:01 min | d 2004 from Robert Seidel on Vimeo.
Award-winning experimental film _grau for the first time in HD on Christmas 2009: … _grau is a personal reflection on memories coming up during a car accident, where past events emerge, fuse, erode and finally vanish ethereally … various real sources where distorted, filtered and fitted into a sculptural structure to create not a plain abstract, but a very private snapshot of a whole life within its last seconds …Media critic Matt Hanson, author of The End of Celluloid and founder of onedotzero festival says: "_grau appeals to me because it is organo-tech. it does not deliberately ape the abstract pioneers of abstract cinema, and it is worlds away from the motion graphic masturbation of many of those enamoured by digital animation. seidel's work is impressionistic, melding biological and emotional currents. out of amorphous shapes we make out bones, heads, a hand. a spirit leaving the body. at least, this is what i sense out of the chaos of galactic reconfigurations, neurological connections, and biological forms. this is a powerful piece of digital animation precisely because it does not feel like such, it feels emotional, epic. and once you release the background to the animation--communicating a 'coming to terms' with the aftermath of a car accident--you realise why."

Thorsten Fleisch: Energie! (2007)
Energie! from Thorsten Fleisch on Vimeo.
From a mere technical point of view the TV/video screen comes alive by a controlled beam of electrons in the cathode ray tube. For ‘Energie!’ an uncontrolled high voltage discharge of 30.000 volts exposes multiple sheets of photographic paper which are then arranged in time to create new visual systems of electron organization. Even though the result is abstract it tells a universal story older than the world itself.Music by Jens Thiele.
